Mike has an extensive background in the insurance industry. He has worked in the Claim Departments of Liberty Mutual Group and CIGNA and with the Complex Claim Unit and Excess Liability Claim Department of American International Group. Mike is a Martindale-Hubbell AV rated attorney and a member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI). He practices in all areas of civil litigation, with a concentration on insurance defense matters and insurance coverage disputes.
Mike is a 1980 graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and a 1989 graduate of Pace University School of Law in New York. He was admitted to practice in New York in 1989. In 1993, Mike was admitted to practice before Idaho’s state and federal courts. In 2002, Mike was admitted to practice in both the state and federal courts in Oregon. He is also admitted to practice before the Unites States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
In the past, Mike coached youth hockey, baseball and softball. He has been the Risk Manager for USA Hockey in Idaho and past President of the Idaho Amateur Ice Foundation, a non-profit organization which provides scholarships to participants in local ice hockey and figure skating programs, and was on the Board of Directors of the West Boise Little League program. Mike now spends his free time flyfishing for trout throughout Idaho or fishing the gulf waters of Florida and Louisiana.
Mike is a member of the Idaho State Bar Professional Conduct Board. He serves as a Pre-litigation hearing panel chairperson for the Idaho Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators and has served as an administrative hearing officer for the Idaho State Police regarding liquor licensing and related matters.
Bob started off college in Nebraska at Creighton University. However, he returned to Boise and graduated from Boise State University with a degree in Political Science. He then went to and graduated from the University of Idaho School of Law in 1986. While in law school, Bob was a member of the National Moot Court Team and was a national finalist in that competition. Bob also served as the Student Bar Association President.
While in law school, Bob had the distinct honor of serving as a summer law clerk for the Honorable Mikel Williams, US Magistrate District of Idaho and US District Judge Hal Ryan. After graduation, Bob began his private law practice with the firm of Quane Smith Howard and Hull. At Quane Smith, Bob practiced in all areas of insurance defense. He then went on to join the firm of Clemons Cosho & Humphrey, later changed to Cosho Humphrey Greener and Welsh, where he became a partner. While practicing at Cosho Humphre Greener and Welsh, Bob continued his practice in the area of insurance defense, but also developed a plaintiffs’ practice in the area of personal injury and worker’s compensation.
In addition to his busy legal practice, Bob acts as a volunteer attorney for the Family Advocate program. Bob was formerly an Adjunct Professor, teaching Legal Research and Writing, at Boise State University. Bob is also active in legal organizations and other church and community organizations. He has served as President of the Fourth District Bar Association, Past Chairman of the Parish Council of St. John the Evangelist and currently serves on the Bishop Kelly High School Board of Governance as President.
Jon completed his undergraduate work at Idaho State University, in his native Southeastern Idaho, graduating in 1991 with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration. He there went on to law school at the University of Idaho, graduating with honors in 1994. While in law school, Jon was a member of the Idaho Law Review and the recipient of the law review award for Outstanding Student Article for the year 1992-93.
Following his graduation from law school, Jon served as law clerk to the Honorable Linda Copple Trout at the Idaho Supreme Court from 1994-1996. From there he worked briefly as Deputy Idaho Attorney General, and then began his commercial litigation practice in 1996. Prior to co-founding Talboy Simmons, he was a shareholder at Cosho, Humphrey, Greener & Welsh, PA., and later at Greener Banducci Shoemaker PA.
In September of 2009, Jon joined his litigation practice with that of his long-time friend and colleague, Robert Talboy, as a partner in the firm Ellsworth, Kallas, Talboy & DeFranco, P.L.L.C. Jon currently maintains a practice focused on representing both individuals and companies in complex civil litigation. He is licensed to practice before all state and federal courts sitting in Idaho, as well as the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Jon rides KTM motorcycles and fishes with St. Croix rods.
Shannon joined Kelly, Talboy & Simmons, PA as an associate in 2017. She provides thoughtful and strategic advice to clients in civil litigation. She approaches each matter with the goal of finding practical and cost-effective risk management solutions for each client.
Prior to joining Kelly, Talboy & Simmons, PA, Shannon was legal counsel at the Governor’s Office of Energy and Mineral Resources (OEMR) where she gained substantial administrative law experience while working to resolve issues related to energy, natural resources, and public lands. She also became well versed in the complex demands on large institutions by working with in-house counsel at one of Idaho’s Universities. Before working for OEMR, Shannon gained valuable experience, while on the staff of Congressman Walt Minnick in Idaho and Jim Matheson in Utah, working with constituents to find solutions to nuanced legislative and regulatory issues.
Shannon earned her J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law, and her B.S. in political science with an emphasis on American government and public policy from Boise State University. She is admitted to practice in Idaho and in the United State District Court for the District of Idaho.
Shannon and her husband, Bryan, spend their free time fishing, skiing, and hiking throughout Idaho with their dogs, Crosby and Aspen.
